Deep within Delhi’s central ridge forest lies a hidden gem. It is the medieval dargah of Khwaja Moluddin Chisti. Imagine a place of serenity away from the city’s hustle.
Khwaja Moluddin Chisti was famous for his generosity. People travel from far and wide to seek his blessings. This dargah is at least 800 years old. The caretaker proclaims its age. The building looks relatively new. It might have been built over the original 13th-century grave.
Legend says he helped everyone. Disciples and devotees still visit him. They pay their respects and share their lives’ problems. Every visitor receives prasad in the form of sweets.
Other graves are within the compound. They belong to relatives of the saint. Colorful cloths adorn the trees. The building’s white and green design gives it a quintessential dargah look.
Be mindful of the monkeys. The entire compound is filled with them. They roam freely jumping from tree to tree. They are generally harmless. They are attracted to food offerings. Photograph them but do not irritate them. Especially avoid the ones with offspring.
Remember to remove your shoes before entering. Wash your hands before reaching the main area. Plastic skullcaps are provided. Wear one as a sign of respect. Return it when you leave. A donation box is inside. Donate if you wish for maintenance. Donations are voluntary.
Thursdays are significant here. Like other dargahs it receives more visitors then. It also stays open longer. Visit on another day if you prefer fewer crowds.
The Mazaar of Moinuddin Chisti is near the Delhi Earth Station. It is also close to Malcha Mahal. Take an auto-rickshaw from Race Course Metro Station to Malcha Marg. It eventually leads to Sardar Patel Marg.
Look for the Delhi Earth Station sign. Walk through the narrow secluded road. It winds through the jungle. In just a few minutes, you’ll find yourself in a different world. It is far away from the city. A simple serene place awaits you. Khwaja Moluddin Chisti’s generosity lives on.
