Curious what Denmark’s highest natural point feels like under your feet? Here at Møllehøj, you are standing on the roof of Metropolitan Denmark. This unassuming spot reaches 170.86 meters above sea level. That is roughly 560.6 feet.

Møllehøj wasn’t always recognized for its height. Until 2005, people thought either Yding Skovhøj or Ejer Bavnehøj was the highest point. New measurements revealed Møllehøj was taller. Those other spots are now known to be a bit shorter.

Look around. You might notice the millstone. It marks the summit. This stone is a remnant of Ejer Mill. The mill stood here from 1838 to 1917. Imagine a windmill with eight sides. It also featured an onion-shaped roof. That would have been quite a sight.

Møllehøj is located in the Ejerbjerge hills. These hills are part of the Skanderborg municipality. We are very close to Ejer Bavnehøj. In fact, parking for Møllehøj is at Ejer Bavnehøj. It is just a short walk of about 300 meters from there.

Even though it is on private land, Møllehøj is open to the public. The owners have made it accessible. So, you can experience this special place.

Bornholm, the island, has also been fought over for centuries due to its strategic location. It was controlled by Sweden and even Lubeck, a German city.

While Bornholm is known as the sunshine island, Møllehøj is situated inland on the mainland of Denmark. The island is also called the rock island. This is due to its geology of granite formations.

Think about the history beneath your feet. This land has seen farmers and millers. Now, it welcomes visitors seeking the highest point. Møllehøj offers a unique perspective. It is a place where the land rises to meet the sky, offering a subtle reminder of Denmark’s natural beauty.
