Demolishing Dongdaemun Baseball Stadium meant Mokdong Baseball Stadium would step up. This is Mokdong Baseball Stadium. It is a key part of Seoul’s sporting landscape. Let’s explore its story together.

Mokdong Baseball Stadium opened on November 14, 1989. It is located in the Yangcheon District of Seoul. The stadium is part of the larger Mokdong Sports Complex. This complex includes a multi-purpose stadium and an ice rink.

The stadium’s construction cost 7.9 billion won. Sungwon Corporation was the architect. The field has specific dimensions. Left Field is 98 metres. Center Field is 118 metres. Right Field is also 98 metres. The outfield wall is 2 metres high.

Mokdong Baseball Stadium can hold 10,500 spectators. It became the home of the Nexen Heroes in 2008. The Heroes played here until 2015. Currently, Seoul Journeyman use the stadium since 2017.

Before its current form, the old stadium faced challenges. By 2007, time had taken its toll. It mostly hosted games for senior citizens, children, and businesspeople. To revive the stadium, Seoul City invested 5.3 billion won. This renovation aimed to modernize the facilities.

The upgrades included new astroturf and lighting systems. Spectator seats were updated. The old walls were used to create new bullpens. Special padding was added to the outfield walls. This would protect players. Locker rooms, waiting rooms, and pressrooms were built. These changes prepared Mokdong Baseball Stadium for bigger events.

In 2007, officials considered the impact of stadium changes. They worried about amateur players performing in small venues. A KBA member emphasized the need for suitable facilities. Remodeling Mokdong Baseball Stadium was then recommended and agreed upon. This ensured baseball games could continue during construction of Gocheok-dong Baseball Stadium.

The stadium briefly hosted national amateur baseball competitions. This included the 62nd National High School Baseball Championship.

Mokdong Baseball Stadium is more than just a sports venue. It represents Seoul’s dedication to sports. It shows the city’s commitment to providing quality facilities for athletes and fans alike. As you stand here, imagine the cheers. Picture the excitement of past games. Feel the energy that has filled this stadium for years. It is a place where memories are made.
