Have you ever heard of a team so beloved, its home ground echoes with over a century of passion? This, my friends, is the Mohun Bagan Ground. A place steeped in history and the heart of Kolkata football. Mohun Bagan Ground, also known as the Mohun Bagan–Calcutta FC Ground, stands proudly opposite the iconic Eden Gardens. Established in 1872, this ground isn’t just a patch of grass. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of the Mariners. Mohun Bagan Ground serves as the training ground for the senior team and hosts matches for the reserve team, particularly in regional tournaments like the Calcutta Football League. The ground’s capacity of 22,000 roars to life during these matches. The energy is palpable, a blend of excitement and unwavering support. Interestingly, the land surrounding Fort William is owned by the Indian Armed Forces. Mohun Bagan AC legally leases the ground for their operations, a unique arrangement born out of historical circumstances. The Mohun Bagan Ground has seen its share of transformations. Originally, the club played at the Mohun Bagan Villa within a marble palace. Then, in 1891, they moved to the Maharaja of Shyampukur’s ground, thanks to Durga Charan Laha. Another move landed them at Shyam Square, shared with Aryans and Bagbazar Club. Finally, in 1900, they partnered with Presidency College, sharing their Maidan ground for 15 years before settling at the National AC ground in 1915, which they used until 1963. The very ground we stand on now. Mohun Bagan Ground is more than just a stadium. It’s a symbol of the club’s unwavering dedication to football, a place where legends are made. And who knows, perhaps the next chapter of Mohun Bagan’s storied history will be written right here, on this very ground.
