Before you, stands a testament to temporary architecture, ModWest Building. In 2020, this structure rose on the UQ St Lucia campus, accommodating a surge in student numbers. A temporary solution, it has become a symbol of the University’s adaptability in a world that is always changing. ModWest is a marvel of modular design. This building, with its iconic name, is a direct reference to its surroundings. ModWest boasts seven collaborative learning spaces, including two 78 capacity rooms, three 120 capacity rooms, and two 150 capacity rooms that can be combined into larger spaces. ModWest’s design prioritizes collaboration and interaction. With its six-seat collaborative tables that can be combined for larger groups, whiteboards, and power options for students, it encourages innovative learning. The building also features central audio-visual functionality and the ability to provide dual inputs on projection screens. Despite its temporary nature, ModWest has become an important part of life at the University. It stands as a reminder that even temporary structures can contribute to permanent change.
