Mộc Cây Nam District, right here in the Mekong Delta, owes its existence to that sweet treat. Now, Mộc Cây Nam District wasn’t always its own entity. It was once part of a larger district simply known as Mộc Cây. This area was renowned for its fertile lands and generations-old expertise in coconut cultivation and processing. The coconut candy produced here became famous, a testament to the local skills. However, in March 2009, a decision was made. The Vietnamese government, recognizing the distinct economic and cultural identity of the southern part of Mộc Cây, decided to split the district. And that’s how Mộc Cây Nam District, dedicated primarily to coconut production and related industries, was born. The northern part became Mộc Cây Bắc District. So, next time you savor the sweetness of Vietnamese coconut candy, remember Mộc Cây Nam District.
