The Ministry of Housing is driving ambitious projects like the planned sustainable smart cities in Muscat, Salalah, Nizwa, and Sohar. Imagine five million square meters transformed into thriving communities, with 10,000 to 30,000 housing units, enough for 50,000 to 130,000 people. This isn’t just about bricks and mortar. It’s about fostering community, creating opportunities, and building a sustainable future. Beyond the smart cities, the Ministry is investing over OMR 150 million in real estate development through the National Initiative for Integrated Residential Neighborhoods (Sorouh). They’re not just building houses; they’re building integrated communities, complete with services and amenities. They have invested over OMR 10 million in eight integrated service stations alone. The Ministry of Housing’s work extends beyond the major cities. They are developing structural plans for regional centers like Ibri, Rustaq, Sur, Ibra, Al-Buraimi, and Haima, ensuring balanced development across the country. Even the mountainous beauty of Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar is being carefully planned as a mixed-use investment destination. In 2022, over 23,000 families chose their plots of land through the Ministry’s digital “Choose Your Land” service. The goal for 2023 is equally ambitious. The Ministry also provided housing assistance to over 1,400 families in 2022, totaling OMR 35 million. They plan to continue this support in 2023, assisting over 1,200 families with another OMR 35 million. The Ministry of Housing’s commitment extends to financial aid as well. In 2022, over 1,600 families benefited from housing loan exemptions, costing over OMR 29.7 million. This commitment to transparency and accountability is fundamental to their mission. They even investigated 91 reports of procedural violations, referring proven cases to the Public Prosecution.
