The Doctors Union, a cornerstone of the medical profession, was formed in 1954. The Ministry of Health spearheaded the introduction of health insurance for the Jordanian Armed Forces in 1963. Al Hussein Medical Center, a beacon of medical excellence, opened in 1973, alongside an allied medical professions institute in Amman, with another following in Irbid in 1978.
