Just four years later he issued a Royal Order. This elevated the Directorate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His son Prince Faisal became the first Minister. The Ministry quickly expanded its reach. It opened its first international office in Cairo in 1930. This was followed by offices in London and numerous other cities. The building itself is a masterpiece of architecture. Designed by Henning Larsen a renowned Danish architect it won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture. This award recognizes excellence in Islamic architecture. Construction started in 1980 and was completed in 1984. The Ministry’s impressive size is also noteworthy. It has enough office space for approximately one thousand employees. It also features dedicated areas for meetings and conferences.
