Contemplate the weight of decisions made within these walls. Here stands the Ministry of Education and Science. From 2004 to 2018 this building was the epicenter for overseeing education and scientific institutions. It played a vital role in shaping Russia’s academic landscape.

The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation once stood as a unified entity. It held responsibility for a vast area. This included scientific activity, technological advancement and educational standards. The ministry also addressed intellectual property. It further looked after social support for students.

Its creation on March 9 2004 marked a significant moment. President’s decree N 314 officially established the Ministry of Education and Science. It consolidated functions from previously abolished ministries. These included the Ministry of Education. Also the Ministry of Industry, Science and Technologies.

Located at Tverskaya 11 in Moscow, the Ministry of Education and Science managed crucial institutions. These institutions included Institutes of Higher Education. Also, the State educational establishment. The Center of the testing was overseen by the Ministry. The National Information Center on Academic Recognition and Mobility also was under their control.

Olga Vasilyeva was the last minister to hold office before a major restructuring. In May 2018 a pivotal decision was made. The Ministry of Education and Science was divided into two distinct entities.

One became the Ministry of Education. It is also known as the Ministry of Enlightenment. This new ministry took over the supervision of grade schools and vocational schools. The other became the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. It focused on universities and research institutions.

Following the split, the Russian abbreviation Minobrnauki was officially reassigned. It now refers to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. This change marked a new chapter in Russia’s approach to governing education and science.

The Ministry of Education and Science once collaborated internationally. The Russian Ministry of Education partnered with the United States Department of Education in 2008. This joint education initiative was known as the FIPSE scholarship. Several US universities participated in this exchange program.

The Ministry of Education and Science no longer exists in its original form. However its legacy endures. It laid the foundation for the current structure of Russia’s educational and scientific administration.
