Established on January 1, 1984, the Ministry of Development coincided with Brunei’s independence. Before this, the United Kingdom oversaw these vital functions. The ministry’s creation marked a significant step. Brunei took full control of its development.

Leading this ministry is Muhammad Juanda Abd Rashid. He has been in office since June 7, 2022. He oversees numerous departments. These departments handle critical aspects of Brunei’s infrastructure and environment.

The Ministry of Development is headquartered right here in Bandar Seri Begawan. From this central location, it manages a wide array of responsibilities. These include public housing to environmental conservation.

The Ministry has seen several ministers. Abdul Rahman Taib was the first. He served from 1984 to 1986. Pengiran Ismail followed. He held the position for an impressive 14 years. Others include Ahmad Jumat, Abdullah Bakar, and Suyoi Osman. Bahrin Abdullah and Suhaimi Gafar also led the ministry. Each minister has contributed to Brunei’s growth.
