Wisma Pertahanan stands tall a testament to Malaysia’s commitment to national security. This imposing structure isn’t just a building. It’s the heart of the Ministry of Defence Malaysia. For decades it has overseen the nation’s defence. It houses the strategic minds safeguarding Malaysia’s interests.

The Ministry of Defence Malaysia wasn’t always located here in this impressive 20-storey building. Its journey began humbly on August 31 1957. The first office was a far cry from the modern Defence Complex. It was a simple building on Brockman Road now known as Jalan Dato’ Onn. That’s where the first Defence Minister Tun Abdul Razak bin Datuk Hussein began his service.

The initial building cost a modest RM122,000. It opened on March 18 1960. This building wasn’t just for the Ministry itself. It also housed the chiefs and officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces. As the armed forces grew so did the need for more space. A six-block complex was constructed. Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra opened this RM2 million expansion on April 6 1967.

The growth continued. The current building on Jalan Padang Tembak became a necessity. The foundation stone was laid in 1982. Construction of Wisma Pertahanan was completed in mid-1985 at a cost of RM144 million. It’s a striking structure. The Defence Complex surrounding Wisma Pertahanan includes a multi-storey car park an auditorium a prayer room a parade ground and even a helipad. It’s a self-contained hub for national security.

Today the Ministry of Defence Malaysia continues to evolve. It adapts to modern threats and challenges. It’s a vital part of Malaysia’s infrastructure. It’s a place where strategic decisions are made. It safeguards Malaysia’s sovereignty and security. Wisma Pertahanan is more than just a building. It’s a symbol of strength resilience and commitment to national defence. A symbol of Malaysia’s unwavering resolve.
