Let’s step back in time. The Ministerio del Trabajo wasn’t always as we know it today. It was created in 1938. Back then, it was called the Ministerio del Trabajo, Higiene y Previsión Social. Quite a mouthful.
For many years, the Ministerio del Trabajo’s structure remained largely unchanged. In 2002, a major shift occurred. It merged with the Ministerio de Salud. Together, they formed the Ministerio de la Protección Social.
But this fusion wasn’t permanent. In 2011, Colombia decided to reorganize. President Juan Manuel Santos Calderón split the Protección Social. This gave rise to a separate Ministerio del Trabajo once again. It also created a separate Ministerio de Salud y la Protección Social.
