Is it true that Min Buri means city of fish? It is. Welcome to Min Buri District one of Bangkok’s 50 districts. Min Buri’s story is quite unique. It started as a province in 1901 during King Chulalongkorn’s reign.

Imagine Min Buri as a province. It included Khlong Sam Wa Saen Saep and Nong Chok. The name Min Buri meaning city of fish was chosen. It paired nicely with Thanyaburi province meaning city of rice.

Economic troubles hit in the 1930s. The government had to cut expenses. Min Buri Province was disbanded. It became Min Buri and Lat Krabang districts in Bangkok. Nong Chok became part of Chachoengsao province.

Later in 1957 part of Saen Saep went from Lat Krabang to Min Buri. In 1997 the northern part of Min Buri split off. This formed the new Khlong Sam Wa District.

Min Buri today is divided into two sub-districts. These are Min Buri and Saen Saep. The district covers 63.645 square kilometers. In 2017 the population was 141750.

Min Buri has a district council. It has seven members serving four-year terms. Elections were last held in 2006. The Democrat Party won all seven seats.
