Commissioned by the Department of Local Government and the Environment, the Millennium Stone, Port St. Mary, and its 23 siblings across the island, were unveiled in the year 2000. Designed by Steve Prescott, the Millennium Stone, Port St. Mary, echoes the ancient Celtic cross, but with a modern twist. Hewn from dark Pooil Vaaish limestone, it sits upon a plinth, a stark and striking figure against the sky. Often, these stones were accompanied by newly planted trees, symbolizing growth and renewal.
