Skateboards only. Absolutely no freestyle bike pegs allowed. This sign sets the tone for Millennium Skate Park. Also known as Owl’s Head Skate Park it is a haven for skaters in Bay Ridge Brooklyn.
Millennium Skate Park opened in 2001. Pro-skater Andy Kessler designed it. It holds the distinction of being Brooklyn’s first concrete skatepark. Imagine the excitement as skaters glided across its smooth surface for the first time.
Marty Golden a City Council Member secured the funding. The NYC Parks Capital Projects Division brought the vision to life. Golden collaborated with Julius Spiegel Martin Maher and Laurence Major Jr. They found the perfect spot in Owl’s Head Park. The city partnered with the skateboarding community for the design. This ensured the park met the needs of local skaters.
Millennium Skate Park spans 14000 square feet. It features both a street section and a bowl section. One of the bowls plunges to a depth of eight feet. Feel the adrenaline as you drop into that bowl.
The NYC Skateboard Coalition hosts an annual pool series event here.
In 2017 the New York City parks department undertook repairs. This ensured the park remained safe and enjoyable.
