Miles Fellowship Baptist Church. A beacon of faith and resilience, rising proudly amidst the vibrant tapestry of Detroit. Did you know that the current Miles Fellowship Baptist Church building stands on land acquired through the Amandla Community Development Corporation? This organization, whose name means “empower the people”, reflects the church’s commitment to community upliftment. Miles Fellowship Baptist Church isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a testament to the vision and dedication of its congregation. Founded in 1966 by Reverend James E. Wadsworth, Jr., the church began its journey in a funeral home. Then, it moved to another funeral home before finally establishing its first permanent structure on Wyoming Avenue in 1967. The church continued to grow, both spiritually and in numbers. This led to a move to a larger building on West McNichols in 1980. Under the leadership of Reverend Wendell Anthony, who succeeded Reverend Wadsworth in 1986, the church experienced continued expansion. This growth necessitated another move. Pastor Anthony envisioned a “Fellowship Chapel Village”. This dream culminated in the groundbreaking for the current building on West Outer Drive in 2002. The new church was dedicated in 2005. The journey of Miles Fellowship Baptist Church mirrors the spirit of Detroit itself. It’s a story of perseverance, adaptation, and unwavering faith.
