The Virgin of Chapi, as she is known, stands in a natural alcove carved from the rock face. Her appearance is nothing less than miraculous: an image of the Virgin Mary etched into the stone, surrounded by a crown made of rocks. The story of the Virgin of Chapi began in 1994, when Flavio Cuba, a local alfajores vendor, saw her on a bus trip. He returned to the spot where he saw her and found the image carved in the rock. He knew this was a special place. Flavio shared his discovery with the community, and soon people started making pilgrimages to the spot. They built a small, simple chapel around the Virgin and brought flowers and candles to leave at her feet.
