LISA at the Université de Montréal. Yoshua Bengio a Turing Award winner spearheaded this. He’s a founding father of deep learning.

Over the years Mila grew. It became a partnership. The Université de Montréal and McGill University joined forces. École Polytechnique de Montréal and HEC Montréal also joined. By 2022 Mila boasted 100 faculty members. Around 1000 students and researchers were also part of this community.
