From humble beginnings sprouted Midway Church of Christ. A small group dreamed big. Their aspirations fueled by faith and coffee. They purchased land in Hitchcock during the late 1950s. A minister’s home was built. The congregation worshipped in a double garage for a year. Then a small frame church was constructed. It had three classrooms.

Midway Church of Christ grew. It outgrew its location. A new site was needed. The church chose a spot on Highway 6. This was midway between Hitchcock and Santa Fe. This explains the church’s name. In March 1971 a new building opened. Midway Church of Christ had found its home.

Brother Gerald Cleveland served part-time from 1965 to 1972. As membership soared a full-time preacher was needed. The South Main Church of Christ in Weatherford Texas helped. Brother Bill Tibbles became the first full-time preacher. In 1974 the congregation became self-supporting. Brother Alan Luker followed. He served for nine years. Brother Robert Taylor served from 1983 to 2000. Brother Gabriel Rodriguez joined in 2001. Brother Russell McLaughlin started in Spring 2003.

Midway Church of Christ supported missionaries. They served in Mexico Iowa Brazil Singapore Indonesia India and Antigua. The church assisted Sunny Glen and Medina Children’s homes. They also met many local needs. Midway Church of Christ is devoted to preaching and teaching the gospel. This dedication reflects the great commission of Jesus Christ. It’s found in Matthew 28:19-20. The church spreads God’s love to the world. May God bless their efforts. They continue to journey into the 21st century.
