MGM Macau first opened its doors on December 18 2007. The project cost a staggering US $1.25 billion. Initially, it was known as MGM Grand Macau. In 2010, it was rebranded as MGM Macau. This renaming aligned with MGM Mirage’s transformation into MGM Resorts International.

The creation of MGM Macau was a landmark event. It followed the end of Stanley Ho’s decades-long government-granted monopoly in the casino industry. The project is owned and operated as a 50-50 joint venture. The partners are MGM Resorts International and Pansy Ho. She is the daughter of Macau casino magnate Stanley Ho.

MGM Macau boasts 35 stories. It has around 600 rooms. There is a total gaming space of 100000 sq ft. The Grande Praça is one of its signature attractions.

Beyond gaming, MGM Macau offers extensive facilities. There is a convention space of 15630 sq ft. It includes the Grand Ballroom. This area spans 8690 sq ft. It is perfect for business meetings, social events and weddings. For relaxation, there is a partnership with Six Senses Spa. This offers 29300 sq ft of space. Guests can enjoy 12 treatment areas.

Even more recently, on November 2 2024, MGM Macau unveiled the Poly MGM Museum. It was jointly established with the Chinese state-owned Poly Culture Group. This museum spans nearly 2000 m2. It is the first museum of international standing within an integrated resort across the Greater China region. The inaugural exhibition focuses on the Maritime Silk Road. It features over 200 artifacts and pieces of artwork. Highlights include Old Summer Palace bronze heads and the 17th-century Chinese tapestry Aeneas and Anchises.

MGM Macau also caters to diverse culinary tastes. Notable restaurants include Palette Dining Studio, Wolfgang Puck Cucina, Wolfgang Puck Steak and TAP.
