In 1889, the Methodistenkirche, or United Methodist Church, built the Zionskirche at Merianplatz in Frankfurt’s east. As the congregation expanded, some members found the trek eastward too arduous. This led to the birth of the Ebenezer Gemeinde. The Methodistenkirche – Ebenezer Gemeinde needed a new home. Land was secured on the then outskirts of Frankfurt on Ludwigstrasse. A new community centre and church arose there. The Methodistenkirche – Ebenezer Gemeinde celebrated its inauguration on May 31, 1907. The Ebenezer Gemeinde thrived in its new location. For decades, it served as a spiritual anchor for the community. However, change is inevitable. In 1998, the Ebenezer Gemeinde and the original Zionskirche reunited. They formed the Christuskirche, consolidating their congregations. The Ludwigstrasse building was then relinquished. The Methodistenkirche – Ebenezer Gemeinde’s legacy, however, continued to resonate. Today, the former Methodistenkirche – Ebenezer Gemeinde building has a new purpose. It now houses the Frankfurt City Church, continuing the tradition of faith and community service. The building stands as a testament to the evolving story of faith in Frankfurt. It is a reminder of the Methodistenkirche – Ebenezer Gemeinde’s contribution to the city’s spiritual landscape.
