Established in October 2000 Methodist University College Ghana stands proudly. It’s a private university. Its location is Accra in the Greater Accra Region. The Methodist Church Ghana founded it. The National Accreditation Board granted accreditation in August 2000. Academic work began in November 2000 at the Wesley Grammar School campus.
This wasn’t just another university. It was a dream realized. The Methodist Church had a vision. They wanted quality tertiary education rooted in Christian values. They had a long history of education. This university was the next step.
The journey began in 1998. At their 37th Annual Conference in Sunyani a resolution was made. A Methodist University College would be established. Years of preparation followed. The meticulous planning paid off. Accreditation arrived in August 2000. Affiliation with the University of Ghana came in October 2002. This strengthened the institution’s academic standing.
The first students attended lectures in November 2000. Another group joined in October 2001. The university grew rapidly. It expanded access to higher education. It fostered academic excellence. It became a beacon of learning and faith.
Methodist University College Ghana didn’t stop there. It boasts five faculties. Each faculty houses several departments. These include business administration accounting and finance. There are also departments for arts general studies social studies and sciences. The range of subjects is vast. It covers many areas of human knowledge.
The university has three campuses. The main campus is in Dansoman a suburb of Accra. There are satellite campuses in Tema and Wenchi. These provide education to a wider population. The Wenchi campus offers agriculture nursing and other related programs.
The university’s history includes a significant milestone. On August 30 2022 it received a presidential charter. This granted it the right to award its own degrees. This marked a new era of independence and growth for the institution.
