“What purpose did this land serve centuries ago?” I often wonder as I stand here at Merryfalls. Merryfalls in Dublin may seem like just another locality today. But its past whispers tales of ancient settlements.

Merryfalls is part of Ireland. It holds secrets buried beneath modern developments. Let’s journey back in time to uncover them.

Archaeological surveys reveal a story far older than the CEVA Logistics office. CEVA Logistics is a modern corporate office here. It has a 4.5-star rating from 14 reviewers. But before logistics parks, Merryfalls was home to something quite different.

In 2017, test trenching occurred at a proposed warehouse site in Merryfalls. This happened because the Fingal County Council required it. No archaeological objects were found then. But earlier, in 2010, things looked promising.

A geophysical survey in 2009 identified a ringfort in Merryfalls. The survey suggested it was a circular enclosure. It was about 30 meters in diameter. Excavations confirmed a ditch in Trenches 2 and 3. The ditch was heavily truncated. It measured 1.1 meters wide and 0.45 meters deep.

The enclosure is tentatively dated to the early medieval period. This is due to its size. The absence of finds does not exclude a prehistoric origin. Circular enclosures were often Bronze Age sites. They served as habitation and burial grounds.

Imagine early inhabitants here at Merryfalls. They built this enclosure. Perhaps it was a safe haven. Or maybe it was a sacred burial ground. Life in early medieval Ireland was surely tough. This enclosure provided shelter. It possibly offered a sense of community.

Today, CEVA Logistics operates here. Its address is Horizon Logistics Park, Merryfalls, Dublin. The phone number is +353 1 525 1020. You can find CEVA Logistics’ website at http://www.cevalogistics.com/.

Around CEVA Logistics is Horizon Logistics Park. Also nearby are Kuehne & Nagel, Ceva, and Vortex Aviation. These are all signs of modern industry. They stand in contrast to the ancient past.

So, next time you’re near Merryfalls. Remember the ringfort beneath the surface. Think about the lives that unfolded here centuries ago. Merryfalls is more than just a location. It is a layered landscape of history and progress. It blends the echoes of the early medieval period with today’s global logistics. It is a place where the past and present meet.
