Mercer University was founded in 1833. It is a comprehensive center for degree programs. Mercer University has campuses in Macon and Atlanta. It has academic degree centers in Savannah, Henry County, Douglas County, and Eastman. Mercer’s Atlanta campus covers 300 acres. It is located just inside the northeast perimeter. It has seen growth in facilities, programs, and enrollment.
The Atlanta campus focuses on graduate and professional studies. Six schools and colleges offer degree programs. Three doctoral programs are available on the Atlanta campus. These include the College of Pharmacy and Health Studies and the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing. Also, the McAfee School of Theology.
Other programs include the Stetson School of Business and Economics and the Tift College of Education. The College of Continuing and Professional Studies is included too. Bachelor’s degrees are available. Nursing, business, and organizational leadership are options. Criminal justice and information systems are further choices.
Off-campus, the Mercer School of Medicine teaches a master’s degree. This is in family therapy at Piedmont Hospital. The campus is home to various programs. The Budding Authors program is for elementary students. Senior University serves older adults. The English Language Institute supports college-bound students. Mercer University is a private institution. Its main campus is in Macon, Georgia. It was founded as Mercer Institute in 1833. It was in Penfield, Georgia. It moved to Macon in 1871. Jesse Mercer was the namesake. He was a Baptist clergyman. He also moderated the Georgia Baptist Association. The university is no longer formally affiliated with a Baptist church.
