As the congregation grew, they held services in a school cafeteria before finally laying the foundation for their own sanctuary. The church thrived for decades. Then, Hurricane Katrina dealt a devastating blow in 2005. The church suffered extensive damage, requiring years of repairs. Just when they thought they could breathe a sigh of relief, Hurricane Gustav tore the roof off their newly renovated sanctuary! The congregation could have given up, but they chose resilience. In 2011, with the arrival of Pastor Dan Pritchett, Memorial Baptist Church began a remarkable turnaround. Under his leadership, they went from a dwindling congregation to a thriving community.
