“Quesadillas led to this?” I can almost hear Ray Heng’s surprise. He is the founder of the Beijing agave festival. We are standing before Meet up with Mexico. This amazing exposition brings Mexican culture to Beijing.

Meet up with Mexico is a vibrant celebration. It showcases the rich heritage of Mexico right here in China. It offers an immersive experience.

Imagine stepping into a stunning white dome. This dome is located near Chaoyang Park’s West Gate 4. It’s also close to the Solana shopping mall. Inside, discover 13 innovative stations. They use cutting-edge technology to bring Mexico to life.

Watch a video on 12 oversized flat screens. This video tells the story of Mexico. Holographic imaging allows you to view more than 15 famous pre-Hispanic artifacts. An interactive table demonstrates Mexico’s accomplishments. These include agriculture and the automotive industry.

Touch screens offer insights into Mexican artisans. Advanced 3-D technology enhances your learning. Step into a virtual dressing room. Try on both contemporary fashion and traditional clothes.

Don’t miss the Vochol. It is a Volkswagen Beetle decorated with traditional beadwork. The Huichol people created this artwork. Eight indigenous artists spent 9,000 hours on its design. They used over 2.2 million beads.

Meet up with Mexico also encourages interaction. Engage with the Mexico Tourism Board’s Sina Weibo account. You might win prizes. A trip for two to Mexico is up for grabs.

Agave spirits are gaining popularity in China. The first agave spirit festival was recently hosted in Beijing. Over 40 brands were featured. Tequila, mezcal, and bacanora were among them. Around 2,000 people attended.

Ray Heng started exploring Mexican cuisine in 2009. A quesadilla sparked his interest. He later traveled to Mexico. He wanted to experience the culture firsthand. He even took a home cooking class.

In 2012, only Jose Cuervo and Don Julio were available in China. Mezcal was introduced around 2015. It gained traction around 2018. Heng started his importing company in 2022. He brought small, sustainable brands to China.

The Beijing agave festival was Heng’s solution. He wanted to educate and unite the community. He named the event “Long Agave Festival”. It was inspired by the Chinese character for dragon. The dragon symbolizes power and cross-cultural essence.

The festival offered neat tastings and cocktails. Three restaurants provided Mexican food. Speakers shared insights on agave heritage and production. People came from all over China.

Meet up with Mexico and events like the agave festival highlight a growing appreciation. This appreciation is for Mexican culture in Beijing. It’s more than just food and drinks. It’s about heritage, craftsmanship, and community. It is an experience for everyone to enjoy.
