Ever wondered where the future of German bookselling and media is shaped? It’s here at Mediacampus Frankfurt. This isn’t just any school. It’s a central hub for training and further education. It serves people in publishing and bookselling.

Mediacampus Frankfurt has quite a history. It started in 1946 in Cologne. Back then, it was a small course with about 40 participants. The City of Cologne and the booksellers’ association supported it. In 1952, the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels took over. Fun fact: future President Johannes Rau attended one of the early courses.

In 1959, the decision was made to move to Frankfurt-Seckbach. The new building opened in 1962 on Wilhelmshöher Straße. It sits on the Lohrberg’s southern slope. The first Frankfurt course took place in 1963. The complex gained the name Schulen des Deutschen Buchhandels.

Mediacampus Frankfurt continued to innovate. In 1974, a textbook store opened. It simulated real bookselling scenarios. International delegations visited from Belgium, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, and Japan. Participants came from German-speaking countries.

The campus evolved further. A course for publishing clerks began in 1984. In 2003, the Börsenverein’s vocational training department moved here. In 2008, the first course for media clerks started. These clerks focused on digital and print media.

Since 2009, it’s been known as Mediacampus Frankfurt. The school even won an award for its creative concept. The offerings here are diverse. Mediacampus Frankfurt trains booksellers and media clerks. Trainees attend campus twice for nine weeks each time. They live in the dorms and attend events. They learn together.

The campus also offers advanced training. These include programs for book trade specialists. There are also programs for media marketing and e-commerce specialists. A distance learning course covers the basics of bookselling.

From 2010 to 2020, Mediacampus Frankfurt partnered with Steinbeis-Hochschule Berlin. Together, they offered a bachelor’s degree. It was for the book and media industry. Professionals earned degrees in book and media management. They also studied publishing and media management.

The Mediacampus offers open seminars too. These seminars once went by the name Seckbacher Kolleg. They take place on campus and in Düsseldorf. Some are even offered as webinars. The team also creates training concepts for partners. These partners come from bookselling and publishing. The Mediacampus also rents its facilities for external events.

Spread across 13000 square meters, Mediacampus Frankfurt features eleven classrooms. It has 77 dorm rooms. There is a cafeteria and two lounges for events. It’s more than just a school. It’s a vibrant hub for the future of media. It is a place where tradition meets innovation. As you stand here, consider the countless ideas born within these walls. Consider the professionals shaped by this institution. Mediacampus Frankfurt is a cornerstone of the German book and media landscape.
