Nate McMillan, despite being overlooked initially, carved a path to NBA stardom. Similarly, this building provides a foundation for countless students striving for their own success stories.
Nate McMillan’s journey began in Raleigh, North Carolina. He played high school basketball. After two years at Chowan College, he joined North Carolina State. McMillan helped lead NC State to significant success. This included a first-place tie in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics in 1986, Nate McMillan spent his entire 12-year NBA career there. Known for his defensive skills, he led the NBA in steals per game in 1994. He earned the nickname “Mr. Sonic” for his long service to the team.
After retiring as a player, McMillan transitioned to coaching. He coached the Seattle SuperSonics, Portland Trail Blazers, and Indiana Pacers. In 2021, he became the head coach for the Atlanta Hawks. He led the Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals.
