Surrounded by the vibrant community of Maywood, stands Maywood Academy High School. It is a beacon of learning and opportunity. Maywood Academy High School opened its doors in 2005. The school moved to its permanent campus in 2006. Maywood Academy High School serves several municipalities. These include Maywood, Bell, Cudahy, Huntington Park, and Walnut Park. Even parts of Vernon are included.

Maywood Academy High School doesn’t have its own attendance boundary. It lacks American football, track and field, and tennis facilities. All residents are zoned to Bell High School. Students from Huntington Park High School may also apply.

Originally, Maywood Academy High School offered four Small Learning Communities. These specialized in Architecture/Design, Performing Arts, Radio Production, and Information/Technology. In 2010, the school transitioned to three SLCs. These were the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Science, and the School of Business and Technology. By 2019, Maywood Academy High School moved away from the SLC model. Now, all students have equal access to all classes.

The mascot of Maywood Academy High School is the Nighthawk. The school colors are blue, white, and black. Maywood Academy High School offers a range of athletic programs. These include baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, swimming, water polo, and volleyball. The school also has a music program. This includes beginning band, advanced band, and keyboard.

In January 2024, Intuit Inc. donated a food truck to Maywood Academy High School. The students named the truck “Nighthawk Cravings.” The truck is student-run and provides real-world experience. The Culinary Arts program is two years long. Students earn a California Food Handler Card and Food Safety Manager Certification.
