Gazing up at the Maxwell Wintrobe Research Building, one might sense the echoes of medical innovation. This unassuming structure holds a significant place in the history of the University of Utah’s medical program. Dr. Maxwell Wintrobe, a world-renowned hematologist, arrived at the University of Utah in 1943. He became the first Chair of Internal Medicine at the newly established four-year medical school. The Maxwell Wintrobe Research Building stands as a testament to his legacy. Dr. Wintrobe’s influence shaped the very foundation of the Department of Internal Medicine. He championed a tripartite mission: patient care, research, and education. This approach continues to guide the department today. Within these walls, extensive renovations have taken place. Upgrades to the entire building and specific floor improvements have modernized the facility. A new 2500A 480V service now powers the building. The emergency system received an upgrade to 800A 480V. New distribution switchboards and branch panels were installed. Three levels of labs underwent complete renovation. State-of-the-art power and systems now equip these research spaces. The building remained operational throughout these extensive renovations. Shutdowns were meticulously scheduled to minimize disruption to staff and students. This ensured the continuation of vital research and educational activities. The Maxwell Wintrobe Research Building embodies the spirit of progress.
