Over 200 study bedrooms. That’s what Master’s Field Annexe boasts. This impressive development is a short stroll from Balliol College’s main site. It’s transformed Balliol’s ability to house students. Now all undergraduates have guaranteed accommodation. There are even 60 more rooms for graduates.
Master’s Field Annexe isn’t just about numbers though. It’s a thoughtfully designed complex. Accommodation blocks surround a central pavilion. This pavilion is more than just a pretty face. It houses changing rooms and a squash court. There’s also an energy centre powering the whole site.
Fellows also have accommodation here. The visiting Eastman Professor even has a flat. Think of the intellectual conversations that must happen there. The location is enviable. Many rooms have views of the playing field. They also look out onto Oxford landmarks. Imagine waking up to that view.
Access is easy. From the south you enter via Jowett Walk. Here undergraduate and graduate blocks surround a beech tree. This tree sits in the middle of a quad leading to the Master’s Field itself. This is Balliol’s sportsground. You can also reach the graduate blocks from St Cross Road. These blocks are opposite Holywell Manor. This is the hub of Balliol’s graduate community. St Cross Church is also nearby. It’s home to Balliol’s Historic Collections Centre.
The Master’s Field Annexe is more than just bricks and mortar. It represents Balliol’s commitment to its students. It provides modern comfortable accommodation in a beautiful setting. This development enhances the educational experience. It’s a testament to the college’s enduring legacy.
The rooms are grouped in clusters. Each cluster has a communal area and a kitchen. There are also common rooms. One is for undergraduates. The other is for graduates. The rooms all have en-suite bathrooms desks and beds. Most beds are small doubles. The rooms in Block B2 are standard singles. The rent varies depending on size and view.
For disabled students five graduate rooms and three undergraduate rooms are specifically designed for accessibility. Ground-level access and lifts are provided throughout the entire site. This ensures inclusivity for all. Master’s Field Annexe is a place of learning. It’s a community. It’s a significant addition to the Oxford landscape. It’s a place where future leaders are shaped.
