Did you realize Maspeth United Methodist Church has roots stretching back to the mid-19th century? Let’s step back in time together.
Hello everyone. I’m excited to share the story of Maspeth United Methodist Church with you today. This church has a rich past. It reflects the enduring spirit of its community.
Maspeth Methodist Episcopal Church of Maspeth, Long Island was founded around 1855. For over five decades the congregation worshipped in their original building. Imagine the Maspeth community growing around this church. It is a beacon of faith for so many.
Then February 24 1907 marked a new chapter. The congregation dedicated a brand new church building. It symbolized their growth. It showed their commitment to the future. This new edifice stood as a testament to their faith and unity.
A significant moment in the church’s history occurred in 1906. The organ in Maspeth Methodist Church was built. It was built by Hillgreen Lane and Company of Alliance, Ohio. This instrument would fill the sanctuary with music. The music would uplift hearts for generations. The organ had two manuals and 11 ranks. It had electro-pneumatic action.
Sadly a devastating fire struck in 2009. The fire destroyed the Maspeth United Methodist Church building. This was a great loss for the community. It was a setback for the congregation.
Despite the destruction the spirit of the congregation remained strong. They made a difficult decision. They chose to merge with Glendale United Methodist Church. This merger created a new chapter. It allowed them to continue their mission. They could serve the community together. The new entity is Glendale Maspeth United Methodist Church.
Today the legacy of Maspeth United Methodist Church lives on. It lives on through its members. It lives on in the hearts of those who remember its presence. Although the physical structure is gone its impact remains. Maspeth United Methodist Church reminds us of faith resilience and community spirit. These are the values that endure even in the face of adversity. It is part of the Glendale Maspeth United Methodist Church now. They are stronger together.
