“Who was Suleiman al Nazaoui and what was his vision?” you might ask, standing here. Masjid Suleiman al Nazaoui stands as a testament to faith and architectural beauty. This mosque is a place of peace for the community.

Masjid Suleiman al Nazaoui is a vital part of Medina’s religious landscape. It offers a space for worship and reflection. While specific details about its history are scarce, its importance to the local Muslim community is clear.

The Prophet’s Mosque in Medina is a significant point of reference when discussing mosques in Medina. The Prophet’s Mosque was the second mosque built by Muhammad. It is Islam’s second holiest site after Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. The Prophet Muhammad himself helped build it.

Initially, the Prophet’s Mosque served as a community center. It was also a court of law and a religious school. Rulers expanded and decorated it over time. One notable feature is the Green Dome, which marks Muhammad’s tomb.

The Prophet’s Mosque has undergone many expansions. The Umayyad caliph al-Walid I significantly enlarged it in the early 8th century. The Abbasid caliph al-Mahdi later extended the mosque to the north.

During Ottoman rule, Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent rebuilt parts of the mosque. He added a new altar and a steel-covered dome. Later, Sultan Mahmud II constructed “the Purified Residence”. His successor, Sultan Abdulmecid I, spent thirteen years rebuilding the mosque.

In modern times, Saudi rulers have greatly expanded the Prophet’s Mosque. King Abdulaziz ordered demolitions to make way for new wings. King Fahd further expanded the mosque in the 1980s.

The modern mosque features a rectangular design. It has a flat roof with sliding domes. These domes open to provide shade and light. Retractable umbrellas also shade the courtyard.

The Green Dome covers the tombs of Muhammad, Abu Bakr, and Umar. The Rawdah, an area between Muhammad’s tomb and minbar is considered sacred.

The Prophet’s Mosque contains two mihrabs. One was built by Muhammad, and another by Uthman. The mosque also features multiple minarets. The first minarets were constructed in the early 8th century.

While Masjid Suleiman al Nazaoui may not have the same historical depth as the Prophet’s Mosque, it is a place of worship. It enriches the spiritual life of Medina. Its existence reflects the ongoing devotion of Muslims in this holy city. Remember Suleiman al Nazaoui and his vision. Consider the countless prayers offered within its walls.
