A grand vision takes shape, here in Batam. This is the story of Masjid Putra Kelana. A planned mosque, envisioned by Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Masjid Putra Kelana is not yet a reality, but a dream waiting to be built. In August 2024, the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Indonesia, HE M Faisal Bin Abdullah H Amodi, was due to visit Batam. He planned to survey land in Sei Temiang, a fifteen-hectare plot designated for this ambitious project. The mosque is the brainchild of Prince Mohammed bin Salman, also known as MBS. Batam’s Mayor, Muhammad Rudi, spoke of the project during a prayer service at the Batam Grand Mosque. He urged community members, especially religious leaders, to oversee the construction. He wanted to ensure the mosque aligned with their shared vision. This plea arose from Rudi’s impending departure from his dual roles as Mayor and Head of the Batam Business Entity. The Masjid Putra Kelana represents not just a place of worship. It symbolizes a burgeoning relationship between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. It is a testament to the vision of a prince, and the dedication of a community waiting to welcome a new spiritual landmark.
