“Harmony and peace at its core.” That’s the feeling the architects wanted to evoke with the Masjid Nurul Yaqin. Welcome to this unique mosque. It stands as a testament to both faith and innovative design.

The Masjid Nurul Yaqin is not in Singapore. It is a mosque in Batam, Indonesia. It serves not only as a place of worship but also as a cultural hub for the community. The client envisioned it to be a work of beauty. It also stands as a memorial to the 2018 tsunami. It is also a symbol of the city’s growth.

Architects Dave Orlando and Fandy Gunawan reimagined the mosque. They created a minimalist form. This form allows it to stand out. It also integrates organically with nature. Unlike usual mosque designs, this one truly makes a statement.

The Masjid Nurul Yaqin consists of two distinct buildings. One building houses the prayer hall. The other contains the utility rooms. The prayer hall has three entrances. One is for the imam. The others are for male and female worshippers.

Concrete and bricks form the primary structure. Blue terrazzo adds a touch of color to the floor. The architects incorporated Islamic ornamentation in a subtle way. They laser-cut 99 names of God into the stainless-steel air vents. These vents surround the upper area of the building.

Water surrounds the Masjid Nurul Yaqin. This creates the illusion that it is floating above the sea. The architects favored the idea of water. It teaches us to work in harmony with our environment.

Inside, 30 pillars support the prayer hall. Ornamental vaulting adorns the ceiling. The building has no windows or glass. It breathes through ventilation. This design choice reduces the need for maintenance. Worshippers face the Mihrab. Here, the mihrab is in the shape of a slit. Natural light seeps through the aperture. It creates a beam of light onto the floor. This orients worshippers toward Mecca.

The architects chose terrazzo for the floor. Its smooth, seamless appearance creates a unique effect. It looks as though there are no gaps. The blue ends. The ocean begins. This resembles an eternal and limitless prayer to God.

The Masjid Nurul Yaqin serves as a sanctuary. It is a place for reflection and spiritual solace. It connects closely to nature. It was conceived with good intentions and peace. This design embodies these values. The Masjid Nurul Yaqin stands as a symbol of faith. It also represents resilience and artistic vision in Batam. Its minimalist design and connection to nature create a serene atmosphere. It is a place where worshippers can find peace and connect with their faith.
