“Nadi Negeri Madani”. That is the spirit infused into the design of Masjid Nongsa Asri. This mosque embodies a vision. It is a vision of a cultured, moral, and knowledgeable society. It aligns with Batam’s slogan: Batam Bandar Madani.

Welcome to Masjid Nongsa Asri. This mosque isn’t just a place of worship. It is a symbol of Nongsa’s identity. The design reflects the area’s history and aspirations.

The design competition for Masjid Nongsa Asri drew significant attention. BP Batam organized it. Over 70 teams participated. Diena A. Scientifionisa and her team secured second place. Their concept, “Nadi Negeri Madani”, impressed the judges.

“Nadi” represents something vital. “Negeri” refers to Nongsa and Batam. “Madani” signifies a vision for society. The team aimed to create a pioneering mosque. It should foster community development. It should serve the broader interests of the people.

The mosque’s design blends modern elements with local values. It provides profound meaning for the community. One strong concept is the main mass composition. It draws inspiration from the Rumah Adat Selaso Jatuh Kembar. This traditional house transforms gradually. It creates a strong Malay character that feels authentic.

The Nongsa Batam Mosque uses two approaches. One is functional. It emphasizes the relationship between God, Man, and Nature. It uses space to express these connections. Hablumminallah translates through worship and prostration areas. Habluminannas has educational and economic functions. These appear as a library and Koran study classes. There is also an area for trading. Habluminalalam incorporates nature. This includes plants, sunlight, and air.

The other approach is geometric. It has four aspects. The historical aspect reflects Nongsa’s past. It was once a successful port city. The mosque’s shape resembles a ship. The spiritual aspect retells Prophet Nuh’s story. He and his followers survived God’s punishment. They boarded the ark. This inspired the name “Nongsa Ark”. The philosophical aspect uses layered light. It’s inspired by a verse from the Quran. This affects the facade and roof shape. The metaphorical aspect symbolizes Islam’s pillars. There are six layers on the north side and five on the south.

BP Batam’s design contest aimed to involve the community. They wanted to incorporate their ideas into Batam’s facilities. The location of Masjid Nongsa Asri is strategic. It is on Jalan Hang Lekiu in Sambau. The area spans approximately 20,000 square meters.

Masjid Nongsa Asri is more than just a building. It is a testament to Nongsa’s spirit. It embodies faith, history, and community aspirations. It serves as a welcoming space for all. It enriches the cultural landscape of Batam.
