The project, funded by the Government of Brunei, cost over B$2.5 million. Its inauguration on July 16, 1993, by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah marked a momentous occasion for the community. The mosque’s ability to accommodate between 1,000 and 1,500 worshippers reflects its importance as a central gathering place. Masjid Kampong Bunut’s architecture showcases a blend of traditional Islamic design elements and modern influences.
