In 1990, a vision began to take shape in the hearts of Bandar Baru Uda’s Muslim community. They yearned for a dedicated space, a beacon of faith. This marked the inception of Masjid Jamek Bandar Baru Uda. For a while, the Surau al-Falah served as their interim spiritual home. But the dream of a grand mosque persisted. Construction of Masjid Jamek Bandar Baru Uda finally commenced in July 1994, adjacent to a religious school. The mosque’s construction was a collective effort, fueled by the community’s unwavering dedication. Donations poured in from every corner of Bandar Baru Uda, totaling an impressive RM 1.5 million. UDA Holdings, recognizing the project’s significance, contributed a substantial RM 2 million. The federal and state governments also lent their support, providing the remaining RM 0.65 million needed to reach the total cost of RM 4.2 million. After two years of tireless work, Masjid Jamek Bandar Baru Uda stood complete in December 1996. Its doors opened for the first time on January 3, 1997, a Friday blessed by the presence of nearly 5,400 worshippers. The main prayer hall, a sprawling 18,640 square feet, became a testament to the community’s shared aspiration. Today, Masjid Jamek Bandar Baru Uda serves as a spiritual sanctuary for thousands. It stands as a symbol of unity and devotion, its story etched in the heart of Bandar Baru Uda. The mosque also oversees eight smaller suraus, extending its embrace to the wider community. Even after its completion, the community’s commitment to Masjid Jamek Bandar Baru Uda did not waver. In 1998, the idea to add a minaret emerged. Fundraising efforts began anew, driven by the belief that a minaret would complete the mosque’s majestic silhouette. Though the estimated cost of RM 450,000 presented a new challenge, the community’s resolve remained unshaken. Step by step, donation by donation, they moved closer to realizing this new vision for Masjid Jamek Bandar Baru Uda.
