Gazing up at the Masjid Al Manarat, can you sense the echoes of its past? This mosque, nestled in Medina, Saudi Arabia, holds a fascinating story. Masjid Al Manarat translates to “Mosque of the Two Towers”. It earned this name from its location between two mountains, once dubbed as towers. The mosque stands near the old main street leading to Mecca. It’s situated between the Amberiye mosque and the two mosque ring lane, just past a gas station. Originally built from simple rocks, Masjid Al Manarat reflects the rich history of this region. Recognizing its significance, King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz ordered its restoration and expansion in 2003. But its story begins much earlier. The mosque was first built by the Sahabah. It was initially known as the Mosque of Bani Dinar. This name comes from the Bani Dinar tribe who settled in the area. Even today, you can find remnants of this ancient settlement in the southern neighborhood of Al-Khudhar, behind Al-‘Assaf gas station. Masjid Al Manarat whispers tales of early Islamic communities and royal patronage. Its journey from a simple rock structure to a restored mosque showcases the enduring power of faith and history in this sacred city.
