“A centre of unity progression and excellence.” That’s the motto of Masjid Al-Iman. This mosque stands as a beacon for the Muslim community. It is a place of worship and a dynamic institution.
Masjid Al-Iman started its operations on May 2 2003. Dr Professor Yaacob Ibrahim officially opened it. He was the Minister for the Environment and Water Resources. He also served as Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs. The grand opening occurred on Sunday September 19 2004.
But the story begins earlier. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on September 26 2000. Ustaz Hj Syed Ahmad Syed Mohamed officiated the event. He was the Assistant to the MUFTI of Singapore. Dr Teo Ho Pin witnessed the event. He was the Mayor of Northwest District. He also served as a Member of Parliament.
Masjid Al-Iman is more than just a place for prayer. It actively engages in community outreach. It demonstrates care for the needy Muslims. It fosters bonds with non-Muslims. It creates working relationships with grassroots organizations.
This four-story mosque can accommodate 5000 people. It has a basement car park. There are 18 classrooms for learning. An auditorium seats 130 people. A computer room provides access to technology. A lift serves all floors for easy access.
The jewel-shaped dome symbolizes unity. It represents the connection between Allah and his followers. The multi-painted star tinted glass roof symbolizes openness to all.
Look at the six minarets around Masjid Al-Iman. These symbolize the six tenets of Iman. The tallest minaret is stylized. It represents concentration openness and victory. It also signifies sovereignty and divinity. At night the minaret lights up. It highlights the elevated crescent and star.
Masjid Al-Iman strives to enrich the Muslim community. It aims to develop an adaptive inclusive and progressive society. It promotes national agendas. It also encourages social cohesion. It plays a vital role in a multi racial and religious society.
