Beneath the soaring minaret of Masjid Al-Huda a sense of tranquility settles. This isn’t just any mosque. Masjid Al-Huda in Kuala Lumpur holds a rich history. It’s a story woven from faith community and time itself.

Originally a small wooden structure Masjid Al-Huda served the Malay-Muslim villagers. It stood in the heart of Kampong Tempeh. This humble beginning contrasted sharply with the grandeur of later years.

The land itself holds a fascinating tale. It was once owned by a Hindu money lender in the early 1900s. In 1905 it was entrusted for use as a mosque. The mosque’s ownership was transferred several times. It changed hands between families. These transfers marked significant milestones in the mosque’s evolution.

In 1925 a larger mosque was constructed. Its wooden structure resembled Javanese mosques. This was a reflection of the community’s heritage. The double-layered roof and collapsible doors were unique features. The mosque was initially named Masjid Kampong Coronation. Locals affectionately called it Masjid Kampong Tempeh reflecting its location.

The mosque’s name changed in the 1970s. A new management committee led by Mustafa Bin Hj Ahmad spearheaded the change to Masjid Al-Huda. They modernized its management. They established popular weekly religious classes.

As the area developed the surrounding kampongs disappeared. The mosque stood as a testament to the past. Necessary renovations were undertaken. The asbestos roof was replaced with metal roofing in the 1990s. Despite the changes the minaret dome and mihrab remain. Masjid Al-Huda continues to serve its community. It offers spiritual respite amidst the bustling city. It is now a cherished symbol of faith and heritage.
