Mascotelos. A quaint village nestled within the municipality of Guimarães. It once held the title of its own freguesia, a small administrative unit. Mascotelos boasted a modest 1.26 square kilometers and a population of 1,631 inhabitants in 2011. This gave it a population density of about 1,294.4 people per square kilometer. Mascotelos, however, saw a change in 2013. A national administrative reform merged it with the freguesia of Santiago de Candoso. They formed a new entity called União das Freguesias de Candoso São Tiago e Mascotelos. The seat of this new freguesia moved to Candoso São Tiago. But the spirit of Mascotelos lives on. It remains a part of the rich tapestry of Guimarães.
