Founded in 1912 Mary Immaculate Catholic Church was established as a parish in the heart of Hollywood. It quickly became a haven for immigrant families a place of solace and worship. The current 700-seat Gothic-style church is a result of construction that began in 1940. It was a significant undertaking costing $75,000. Archbishop John J Cantwell dedicated the magnificent structure in 1941. This building stands as a symbol of the community’s unwavering dedication and faith. Its construction marked a new era for the church. This provided a larger and more suitable space for the growing congregation.
The church’s history is not without its challenges. Renovations and restorations have been necessary throughout the years. Yet the community’s commitment to its heritage has ensured that Mary Immaculate Catholic Church continues to thrive. A significant restoration and renovation project commenced in June 2011. The Centennial Mass in January 2012 celebrated 100 years of service. Archbishop Jose H Gomez presided. Former pastors associate pastors and clergy members joined the celebration.
The church serves a diverse multicultural community. Filipino Mexican Salvadoran Guatemalan and other Central and South American families call it their spiritual home. This diversity enriches the church’s vibrant tapestry of faith and tradition. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church reflects the rich ethnic diversity of East Hollywood. Its location along Historic Route 66 adds another layer to its unique identity.
Reverend Rolando “Rolly” Clarin was installed as the eleventh pastor in 2016. Reverend Pedro Valdez serves as the Associate Pastor. Their leadership continues the church’s legacy of service and pastoral care. This reflects the ongoing dedication to the community. Their commitment helps guide the parish towards its mission of nurturing a welcoming community.
