Mark Clark Hall, a grand three-story building, has quite a few stories of its own. Constructed in 1957, it stands as a testament to the changing times at The Citadel. The hall was named after General Mark W. Clark, a pivotal figure in The Citadel’s history. It’s not just bricks and mortar. It’s a buzzing hub of cadet life, home to everything from conference rooms and the Office of Cadet Activities to a barbershop, a gift shop brimming with Citadel memorabilia, and even a Starbucks. Imagine grabbing a latte before class in a building dedicated to a general! The Buyer Auditorium, nestled within Mark Clark Hall, is another nod to The Citadel’s rich history. It’s named after Stephen E. Buyer, a 1980 graduate and former congressman. General Clark himself expressed immense gratitude for the honor of having the building bear his name. He called it one of the finest and most “durable” honors he’d ever received. Mark Clark Hall isn’t just a building.
