He’s a scaled, majestic beast, perched proudly at the corner of 33rd and Market Streets. This is Mario the Magnificent. He’s more than just a statue, he’s a Drexel University legend. Mario’s been around since 2002, a symbol of strength and spirit. He was created by sculptor Eric Berg, who imagined a dragon with a fierce presence, but one that would also be welcoming and approachable for the Drexel community. The dragon’s design was inspired by the traditional Drexel dragon logo, but Berg brought him to life with intricate scales, razor-sharp claws, and wings spread for flight.
