One of his most daring exploits was his journey through the United States. During the American Civil War he traveled alone to secure aid from President Juarez for the resistance against the French. He navigated Confederate lines reaching Texas. He joined other republican colonels to regroup and plan their strategy.

Escobedo’s pinnacle came during the Siege of Queretaro in 1867. He commanded the Republican Army. He oversaw the capture of Emperor Maximilian I marking the end of the Second Mexican Empire. It’s quite a story. A remarkable tale of courage cunning and strategic leadership. This man’s influence extended far beyond the battlefield. He served as governor of both Nuevo Leon and San Luis Potosi implementing improvements to infrastructure and commerce. He also served as a senator and Minister of War under President Sebastian Lerdo de Tejada. His legacy is a testament to his multifaceted contributions to Mexico.

General Mariano Escobedo died in Mexico City on May 22 1902. His remains are now in the Rotunda of Illustrious Persons.
