The church derives its name from Saint Margaret of Antioch, a venerated figure known for her association with the Sacred Heart. The Margaretakirche rose from humble beginnings. Its story began with simple gatherings in a local guesthouse in 1946. As the congregation grew, they sought larger spaces, eventually constructing a temporary chapel and then a “Notkirche” or emergency church. However, the dream of a permanent sanctuary persisted, and in 1961, the cornerstone of the Margaretakirche was laid. On May 3rd, 1963, the Margaretakirche was finally consecrated, a testament to the dedication and faith of the community. Designed by the architects Eberhard Michael Kleffner and Christa Kleffner-Dirxen, the church’s heart-shaped layout holds a special significance. It echoes the Sacred Heart devotion central to the parish’s identity. Nestled within the heart, you’ll find the altar, symbolizing the centrality of faith in the lives of the parishioners. Today, the Margaretakirche stands not just as a place of worship but as a symbol of resilience, growth, and the enduring power of faith.
