Step into the vibrant world of the Marcana-Schule. This isn’t just any school. It’s a community school a place where learning thrives in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district of Berlin. Located in the Marzahn NordWest region the Marcana-Schule has been educating children since 2019.
Initially catering to students in grades 1 through 6 the school expanded in 2019/20. Now it welcomes around 100 seventh graders as well. This expansion shows the school’s commitment to growth and development. Over 50 teachers and educators work tirelessly. They nurture and support students from the local area and beyond.
A fascinating aspect of the Marcana-Schule is its connection to the German Red Cross (DRK). Since January 2007 DRK school social workers have been an integral part of the school community. Currently two social educators are dedicated to supporting students parents and staff. They are at the school five days a week. They provide a range of support services.
Funding for these vital services comes from the Berlin Bonus Program. It also receives funding from the “Youth Social Work in Berlin Schools” program. The school’s commitment to its students extends beyond the classroom. In 2020 the Marcana-Schule participated in the “Student Budget Marzahn-Hellersdorf” project. The school social work team expertly integrates this project. They seamlessly incorporate it into their existing support structures.
To further enrich the learning environment the school established the “Learning Island”. This is a temporary learning group for grades 1-3. A teacher from the Kreisverband supports and promotes students in small groups. Up to six children develop key social skills. This helps them integrate successfully into their classrooms. The Learning Island operates three days a week. It’s funded by the Marcana-Schule through the Berlin Bonus Program.
The Marcana-Schule isn’t just a building. It’s a thriving hub of learning community and support. It’s a place where children are nurtured and empowered to reach their full potential. It’s a testament to the dedication and vision of its teachers staff and the wider community. This vibrant institution is making a real difference in the lives of its students. It’s a shining example of what a community school can be.
