Why is this mall called “Malcha Mall”? We are standing right in front of the Malcha Mall. This mall stands on land that once belonged to the Palestinian village of al-Maliha. This village sadly no longer exists. It was destroyed during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. The Malcha Mall itself opened much later though, in 1993. It has become a popular shopping destination for both Jewish and Arab residents of Jerusalem. The Malcha Mall is a symbol of the complex history and demographics of Jerusalem.
